Parable of the good Samaritan
Let your light shine
A lawyer asks Jesus a question, saying, Who is my neighbor? Jesus then shares the parable of the good Samaritan. It’s about a Samaritan who helped a person that fell among thieves and in critical condition. This Samaritan shows compassion for the wounded and assists them as best he can though they are strangers.
Jesus tells us this: Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16. The world sees Christ through our good works. It is in our good works that our light shines, and God receives the glory. As Christians, we are representatives of Christ, and so we should behave as such by applying the word of God in our lives daily. The world is watching us.
By your act of kindness, a lost soul who doesn’t know Jesus gets to experience the Christ that’s in you. Many lives can be blessed and lost souls saved into the kingdom of God. Your good works can draw people closer to God.
The good Samaritan
And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
And by chance there came down a certain priest by that way; and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked at him, and passed by on the other side.
But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was; and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him: and whatsoever though spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.
Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbor unto him that fell among thieves?
And he said, He that showed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go and do thou likewise. Luke 10:30-37.
