Embracing Your God-Given Assignment
You Can’t Run From God’s Call
One thing I’m sure of is this: the undeniable calling to speak of Jesus Christ and spread His fame. You cannot run from God—He’s everywhere. There’s no hiding place from Him. Even if you’ve tried to avoid it, you can’t escape His call. In the end, God’s will prevails, and His name is glorified. Hallelujah!
You might feel disqualified due to a lack of resources, recognition, or credentials. Perhaps you’re overwhelmed by fear—fear of failure, of letting God down, or of falling short. Yet God sees beyond our limitations. As Scripture reminds us, “For the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7).
Your past mistakes, regrets, and shortcomings are no match for God’s grace. Despite your doubts, God is still calling you. His love has chased you, fought for you, and saved you. You’re not your own; you’re a testament to His mercy and purpose.
What Is God’s Calling?
God’s calling begins with His invitation to follow Jesus Christ. When Jesus said, “Follow me” (Matthew 4:19), He invited us to walk with Him. By receiving Jesus as Savior and believing in His name, we become children of God. “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” (John 1:12).
The journey doesn’t stop there. Walking with Christ requires daily surrender to His will. Through this journey, God reveals Himself and shows us who we are in Him. As you discover God, you’ll uncover your identity in Christ and the assignment He has uniquely crafted for you.
Why Your Assignment Matters
Many people wrestle with the idea of their God-given assignment. You may wonder, “What could little old me possibly do for God?” The truth is, every believer is called to be a part of God’s kingdom work. Some accept this calling readily, partnering with God to fulfill His will. Others struggle, held back by self-doubt or worldly distractions. Still, others pursue their own paths, only to find them unfulfilling.
Remember, nothing outside of God’s will can truly satisfy. “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8:36). Don’t let fear, distractions, or temporary pleasures rob you of the joy of fulfilling your God-given purpose.
The Process: From Fear to Fulfillment
Answering God’s call can feel daunting. It’s like walking into a gym for the first time. You’re intimidated, unsure of where to start. But just as physical fitness requires commitment and growth over time, so does stepping into your spiritual assignment. Start where you are. With each step of obedience, you’ll grow stronger and more equipped for the work ahead.
Your calling may feel heavy at first, but as you continue in God’s grace, the weight will shift. Jesus said, “For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:30). Trust that God will give you the strength to carry out His will. Through Him, you’ll find joy and fulfillment.
Practical Steps to Embrace Your Assignment
- Seek God’s Guidance Spend time in prayer and the Word, asking God to reveal your assignment. “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not” (Jeremiah 33:3).
- Write It Down Use a journal to record what God reveals to you. Writing helps clarify your thoughts and keeps you focused. Our journals at Abundant Streams Creativity are perfect for documenting God’s instructions and tracking your progress.
- Take Small Steps Start where you are and do what you can with what you have. Remember, God doesn’t call the equipped; He equips the called. “Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it” (1 Thessalonians 5:24).
- Trust the Process Just as physical training strengthens the body, spiritual obedience strengthens your faith. Be patient and trust that God is preparing you for greater things.
The Joy of Fulfillment
Those who embrace their God-given assignments experience a profound sense of joy and purpose. Like the Apostle Paul, they can say, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7). Imagine standing before Jesus and hearing Him say, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21). This is the ultimate reward for a life lived in obedience to God.
Beloved, I speak to you as one who has lived through this experience. There is work ahead of me that I must do. With that said, let us not become so consumed with the work that we neglect the One who calls us. You are not on this journey alone but rather you and God on this route. Love God with all your heart, and love Him as you do your assignment. Let your love for God remain steadfast to the very end.
Don’t Leave Earth With Regrets
You were created for a reason. Don’t let fear, doubt, or distractions prevent you from fulfilling your purpose. As the Psalmist wrote, “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14). Trust that God has a plan for your life and step into it boldly.
