3 Ways to enter the kingdom like a child

Entering the kingdom as children

Happy Sunday, family, the verse of the week – 11/7/2021 is in Mark 10:14. The message of the week is how to enter the kingdom like a child.

To enter the kingdom of God, we must become like little children. That is not to say that you stop being a responsible adult and suddenly act childish. Children of God exhibit a childlike demeanor that is fit for the kingdom of God. This childlikeness is a comparison of the qualities we should have as disciples of Christ.

We know that without Christ, we can do nothing. And we cannot accomplish anything of permanent spiritual value on our own. We put out total reliance solely on God, trusting him every set of the way.

Children are naturally dependent on their parents for everything. They display sincerity, eagerness, a trusting attitude, and obedience. Children are curious and wonder about the world around them. They are helpful creatures of God, thankful, show kindness, and are loving.

Examining what it is like being a child in the natural is a good way of helping us understand how to be a child spiritually.

Let us explore three characteristics of a spiritual child of God by reviewing it alongside a child in the natural with scriptures as our guide.

Enter the kingdom like a dependent child

Dependence – A child relies on their parent for food, clothing, shelter, etc. As spiritual children, we depend on God for everything; he is our ultimate source.
And so we look to our Heavenly Father, as a child their parent putting out complete trust in God.

Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? – (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. – But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:31-33.

Enter the kingdom like a child

Enter the kingdom as an obedient child

Obedience – A child obeys their parent and does what they are told to do. As spiritual children, the scriptures instruct us on the will of God.
The scriptures are our guide on what we should and should not do.

But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard. – He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went. – And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not. – Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. Matthew 21:28-31.

Enter the kingdom as a loving child

Love – A child loves their parent and is eager to please them. As spiritual children, we are to love God and keep His commandments.
Jesus set before us an example – He loved the Father and carried out His will all the way to the cross at Calvary where He laid down His life to save us from our sins. Your love for God propels you to do His will.

And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him. John 8:29.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16.

Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. – By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. 1 John 5:1-2.
